Club Info : Community Involvement

The Club is located off of Dorchester Ave in the Savin Hill/Uphams Corner section of Dorchester. We serve a large number of youth from Roxbury, South Boston, Mattapan & Roslindale areas of Boston. 55% of these families are low-income, and 60% are single parent female run homes.

The Kids
We serve more than 4,000 boys & girls with ages ranging from infancy through eighteen, from a wide range of different backgrounds many, from disadvantaged and economically challenged families. We have also found ourselves serving a growing number of immigrant families. Our registered membership reports reveal that the kids who attend the Club come to Dorchester from 42 different countries. The tremendous diversity of our agency is something that makes the Club a very special place.

Community Collaborations

The Club collaborates with hundreds of individuals and organizations to accomplish its work. Some examples of these continuing collaborations include the following:

• Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office & Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office
Members of the legal profession work hand-in-hand with our Education staff to implement our McLaughlin Community Law Education Program. The McLaughlin Law Program assists members and their families to understand the law and how it can work for them.

• Berklee College of Music
Our partnership with Berklee allows us to offer free, one-on-one music classes to young people who would not otherwise be able to pursue this interest. Volunteer tutors provide music lessons at no cost for over 100 of our members.

• Boston College and Stonehill College
Hundreds of students participate in the many tutoring programs that we offer both off-site at Boston College and Stonehill College and on-site here at the Club. Members who receive one-on-one tutoring demonstrate improved academic performance, increased self-confidence and better overall attitude toward school work

• The Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program (Project DEEP)
Based on a careful review of the test scores of Dorchester students, Project DEEP and the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club collaborated recently on the creation of a new curriculum designed to prepare students for the Independent Schools Entrance Examination

• The All Dorchester Sports League (A.D.S.L.)
The All Dorchester Sports League operates organized basketball, baseball and soccer leagues for over 2,000 youth each year. A.D.S.L. has been working with the Club for over 15 years to provide athletic team competition for boys and girls of all ages in a wide variety of sports.
