What are Errors 3001, 3005 and 3009?

Errors 3001, 3005 and 3009 are general errors that may have several different causes. These errors are usually temporary and may be due to heavy internet traffic and/or temporary website maintenance.

In the interim, we have included troubleshooting steps below on clearing the cache and cookie files (or in Microsoft Windows 95 and higher, Temporary Internet Files) from your computer. If the web browser your using is not listed below, check the Help section of that browser or contact their customer support center. (Note: Before you do anything, make sure that you are accessing https://www.paypal.com directly rather than through a Bookmark or Favorites link.

Clearing cache and cookies for Internet Explorer:

Click Start button
Select Settings and then Control Panel
Double-click on the Internet (or Internet Options) and select the General tab
Click Settings in the Temporary Internet Files section and choose View Files
Click Edit and choose Select All
Press the Delete key on your keyboard. If prompted to verify that you want to delete your cookies, click Yes
Clearing cache and cookies for Internet Explorer on a Macintosh:

Click Explorer or Edit at the top of your screen
Click Preferences
Under Web Browser Preferences, click Advanced
Click Empty Now on the right
Under Receiving Files Preferences, click Cookies
Click Delete to the right
Click OK
Clearing cache and cookies for AOL:

Open your AOL account
Click the Settings button on the toolbar ("My AOL" on older versions)
Select Preferences
Select the Internet Properties link on the left-hand side (Older versions will show a WWW box)
In the middle of the Internet Options box is a section called Temporary Internet Files
Click Delete Files and check the "Delete All Offline Content" box
Click OK
Clearing cache and cookies for AOL on a Macintosh:

Click My AOL at the top of your browser
Select Preferences
Click the WWW icon on the left hand side
Click Empty Cache Now
Click the Advanced Settings button on the right. (Note: This will bring up a new window for Advanced Settings)
To the left under Receiving, click Cookies
Highlight all cookies and press Delete on your keyboard
Clearing cache and cookies for Netscape on Microsoft Windows or Macintosh:

Open Netscape and select the Edit pull down menu
Select Preferences
Click Advanced on the left hand side of the screen and then Cache. You will see an option to clear your disk and memory cache. It is recommended you clear both types of cache files. You may also need to locate the folder on your hard drive named Cookies or Magic Cookies and delete the cookies that are stored here
If this does not correct the problem, wait a short time, restart the web browser, and attempt to access https://www.paypal.com/ directly.

If you are still receiving the same error message, please provide a detailed description of the steps you took up to the point when you received this error. For instance, were you able to login? On which page did the error appear? After you received the error, did you take any other action? All of this information will assist us in finding the cause of the error.
