A Safe Summer in Athletics
When the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club was founded in 1974, it became a magnet literally overnight for the neighborhood kids who reveled in the chance to swim in the full-sized pool and play basketball year round. Over the years, we added other enrichment programs such as Art and Music, Education, Social Recreation, Life Skills and Career Services, but our Athletics and Aquatics programs remained at the core of our Club’s mission... Staff Profile: Bruce Seals
In 1971, Bruce Seals was named Louisiana’s Most Valuable High School basketball player edging out soon-to-be Celtics legend Robert Parrish. Bruce honed his skills at Xavier University in New Orleans, and then was drafted into the pros first by the ABA Utah Stars, then the NBA Seattle Supersonics, and finally the Italian League. “The game was good to me,” says Bruce. “I saw the world.” Click for More
Member Profile - Angie Viloria
Angie is a self-described “sporty girl.” Here at the Club, she plays basketball, floor-hockey, wiffleball, soccer, and also does gymnastics. When she’s not in the gym, she can be found in the gamesroom where she likes to participate in Double Dutch and the Torch Club. At home, she watches baseball and basketball on TV. Her favorite class in school? You guessed it: Gym.
