Education Department Seeks Club - Wide Goal
Teaching our members to value education, enjoy learning
|
Kids today are smarter than ever, and research shows that they do much better in school when they spend their non-school hours engaged in fun, educational activities. Here at the Club, we utilize all areas and programs to help young people apply what they learn in the classroom to practical, real-life situations. We create opportunities for high-yield learning activities, through which our members discover new interests and talents that give them a zest for lifelong learning. For example, Internet scavenger hunts test problem solving skills, and games like Scrabble enhance literacy and cognitive skills. In our Athletics Department, one of the most popular areas for Club kids, increased emphasis on understanding statistics, the calculation of percentages and the development of ratings procedures leads to increased interest in studying mathematics.

But learning is not just about activities, it’s about attitude. On a daily basis, our staff works to stimulate kids’ natural curiosities, to engage them in discussions about current events, and to reinforce the sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a book or mastering a new skill. By building positive relationships, we are building a positive attitude toward learning. By incorporating opportunities for learning into as many of our Club activities as possible, and establishing meaningful relationships with members, we teach them that learning can be fun, exciting and self-rewarding.
