Dear Friends,
A recent study by the Nellie Mae Foundation called CRITICAL HOURS: After School Programs and Educational Success, refers to after-school programs as “the new neighborhood.” That description could not be more appropriate for our Club, which provides not just a physical space for kids to learn, play and grow, but an atmosphere of belonging and acceptance.
With the Summer months approaching, the need for the Club’s “neighborhood” feel is even greater. During summer vacation the Club is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and offers extended programming to meet the increasing needs of our members and their families. Additionally, the teen program runs until 11:00 p.m. exclusively for our members between 13 and 18 years of age. These are the kids who need us the most during these critical hours.
On many occasions I have talked with our members and alumni and they echo the “new neighborhood” concept....
It is a place where I can go and feel safe. It helped me build character and learn to be responsible. It helped me meet new people and become open minded.

The Marr Club is more than just a building…the people in it are a family. There’s always that wonderful sense of community.
-Madeline, Boston College
The Club is a place with a very welcoming atmosphere. When I’m there, I feel like I can joke, play, be myself, and learn from others.
-Tome, Hampton University
With immigrants from over 40 nations residing in Dorchester, our Club is the one place where different norms and values are integrated. The one place where kids and families can take root. The one place where everyone feels safe. Your ongoing support guarantees that our Club remains the one place that everyone can count on.
Enjoy your summer,
Sincerely,
Bob Scannell
