Development News
Every afternoon at around 3:30 p.m., the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club comes alive with a positive energy that can’t be described. Our members get off their school buses and out of their parents cars and dash to their after-school programs, knowing they are about to learn something new, see their friends and meet up with an adult who truly cares about their well-being.
|
The Marr Club has a proud tradition of serving Dorchester’s kids and families since 1974. Since 2000 our membership count has increased from 2,600 to over 4,000 today. In the coming year we know even more families will turn to the Marr Boys and Girls Club for our strong education, music, arts, athletics, childcare, teen, and youth leadership programs and much more.
And we turn to you, our friends and loyal supporters, to help us make sure each child who enters the McLaughlin Teen Center, the Marr Building and the Denney Center has full access to every program they need. Please support our “It Just Takes One” annual fund campaign. Watch your mail for our letter or visit our web site so you can make a donation today (www.danmarrclub.org). Your unrestricted donation will guarantee that all of our members have a safe place off the streets, where they can learn and grow.

Marr Club Toes the Line at Boston’s Run to Remember
On March 12, 2006 23 athletes in the Marr Club’s Running/Walking Club participated in the Boston’s Run to Remember 5-mile road race. Our members worked hard training for this race and received the support of many on their road to success. We are most grateful to Tony Pallotta, the event’s race director, for inviting us to this event, the Boston Police Department and their Running Club for helping us train for the race, and to New Balance for supplying each team member with a pair of running shoes.
