| Programs : Athletics |
The Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club has its roots in athletics and recreation, and we still feel strongly about this essential element of our Club environment. Throughout the years, we have offered an expanding array of activities to meet the interests of our young members. Our Athletics Program has always been strongly focused on team sports. We currently offer intramural sports programs in basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and baseball. However, many of our members do not naturally gravitate to team sports. We have recently introduced a multitude of alternatives to team sports and given new attention to individual fitness and athletic activities.

We now include non-team sports as a key component of our sports program, on an equal par with the traditional team sports. We have established a Track and Field team, a functional hybrid of team and non-team sports activities. We have also designed a new fitness curriculum that includes our peripheral non-team sports activities such as step aerobics, cheerleading, and dance classes. While “going to the gym” has always been a popular choice for many of our members, the new programs serve to encourage and invite a segment of our membership who had not previously engaged in athletic activities.

All members who engage in sports and fitness at the Club have the opportunity to participate in tournaments, meets or performances. These special events serve as a motivational tool, teaching members the importance of working toward a goal and always giving their best effort. Awards recognize both individual and team contribution. The Club emphasizes fair play, sportsmanship and team spirit in all of its activities.
