The Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club offers an extensive array of job prep and job placement services for teen members of the Club. Our primary goal is to secure as many summer jobs as possible for interested members. We typically train and employ close to 100 teens as counselors and assistants in our own Summer Program at the Club. We conduct workshops for these teens as well as for teens interested in obtaining employment in the private sector. The workshops focus on resume writing, proper speaking and interviewing techniques, filling out applications and forms, proper dress, appropriate behavior and the importance of building positive relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
We continually seek new business partners for placement of teens who successfully complete the workshops, and we concentrate on placing teens in employment situations that represent long term educational and career potential for them. We are especially enthusiastic about the job possibilities offered to our members through our partnerships with local businesses, corporations and government agencies.
Successfully completing summer employment and training is but one step on the path toward solidifying plans for permanent employment, vocational training or college. In order for our members to make the best decision possible regarding their future, we encourage them to take full advantage of the career services we offer. Our programs are designed to be interactive. Members gain knowledge and self-confidence by participating in mentoring relationships, special career days and alumni events.
