Programs : Education

Throughout the year, the Club offers a variety of services designed to encourage, inspire, and help our members acquire stronger study skills and improved academic achievement. Members have the opportunity to do their homework in a quiet space, receive tutorial assistance, and access computers and reference materials for school assignments. Specifically, our Homework Help Program is open in the Marr Building on Monday through Thursday from 2:30pm - 7:00pm for all of our members. On Fridays, in the Marr Building, members are treated to a variety of educational games and activities from 3:00pm through 6:00pm. We offer open sessions for development of technology skills in our computer lab and Computer Learning Center. Hundreds of students participate in the many tutoring programs that we offer. During the summer months, some tutors are available to students wishing to focus on a particular subject or area of need.

Special emphasis is placed on high school students requiring assistance in passing MCAS exams or wishing to improve S.A.T. scores in preparation for the college admissions process. Students are encouraged to come in for counseling or to talk about possible options. At any time, students are able to browse or study the college, career and employment materials available in our library. College tours start in the the fall as our members make day trips to various New England colleges and universities. By opening members’ minds to education and giving them the opportunity to see and understand the many options open to them, we have seen an increase in the number of members attending college and more importantly, a decrease in the number of members who perceive that there is “nothing out there for me.”
